What is Skype?
Skype is a free piece of software that allows people to make free calls and send instant messages with other Skype users. Most teachers on italki use Skype to conduct their lessons. You can download Skype here: http://www.skype.com
Why use a headset with a microphone?
We strongly recommend using a headset with a microphone rather than computer speakers. This is because computer speakers can cause feedback with your microphone. This can affect the quality of your sound. In order to have the clearest sound for your lesson, we recommend using a headset and microphone.
How good does my internet connection have to be?
If your connection is very good, it is more likely you will be able to use video during your lessons. Many of our users only use voice chat during their lessons. In general, it's worth doing a trial lesson to just make sure that the internet connection between countries should be clear enough.
