italki Knowledge is like a free online textbook. You can start learning a language by reading the italki knowledge pages (example: learn Chinese). There are two types of Italki Knowledge pages: Wikis and Contributions. Wiki pages can be edited by anyone (like Wikipedia) Contribution pages are created and edited by one or more users. You can create italki Knowledge pages and embed text, video, sound, or pictures.

What is Knowledge?

  • Knowledge is the application of the idea of collaborative wikis
  • Knowledge has two parts: Wiki and Contribution.
  • Wiki can be edited by the global community
  • Contribution is privately edited, meaning the creator chooses the editors
  • Knowledge is the largest source of free user-generated language-learning textbooks
  • Knowledge is a systematic approach to language learning

What are the benefits and features of Knowledge?

  • Knowledge supports any multimedia format including text, video, sound, and images so the language learner can have a multi-sensory input learning experience
  • Knowledge can cover any language learning topic imaginable such as grammar, pronunciation, slang, culture, and more
  • Knowledge, with user-created Contribution pages, for example, allows anyone to become a teacher of their native language

How do I use italki Knowledge

If you are a linguist or teaching expert, you can create your own ebooks, course materials or teacher’s guide. You can also invite your friends or other italki members to help you create and edit Wiki or Contribution pages.

If you are learning a foreign language, you can share your class notes or self-study materials; you can also write book or movie reviews, travel articles, write out the lyrics to your favorite songs, or include anything that you think would help someone learn a language! You can ask italki friends to help you edit the pages or add more content.

How do I create a Knowledge page

Create a page: Simply click on the grey button at the top right of the italki Knowledge page that says Create a New Page. And then follow these instructions.
